연안 지역 위원(COAST Regional Commissioner, 이하 RC)인 Mwantumu Mahiza는

고아들을 이용해 기부자들로부터 돈을 벌려고 하는 지역의 비정부 조직들(이하 NGOs)을 수배하고 법에 따라 처벌할 것이라고 경고했다.

지난 금요일, Mwantumu Mahiza는 지역사회 개발부서 주최로 열린 NGO를 위한 공식적인 회의 개회사에서 자신의 입장을 밝혔다.

“미래의 기증자로부터 자금을 얻기 위해 고아를 이용하는 NGO들이 많이 있습니다.

그들이 일단 자금을 받으면, 아이들을 관심 밖입니다. 이것은 완전히 비윤리적이며 우리 문화에서 받아들여질 수 없는 것입니다."

RC는 아이들을 고아원으로 보내는 친척들이 아이들의 행복을 생각해서 조금 더 그들에게 동정심을 가질 필요가 있고,

그리고 NGO들에게 친척들이 그 아이들을 잘 돌볼 수 있도록 권한을 부여하는 것을 권고했다.

“많은 고아 아이들이 그들의 친척을 가지고 있습니다. NGO가 친척을 찾고 그들이 어떻게 그 아이들을 잘 돌볼 수 있는지에 대해 가르쳐 주며 친척들을 찾지 못한 경우에 아이를 고아원에 두는 것이 더 현명한 방법일 수 있습니다.”

회의는 ‘Mkuranga’, ‘Rufiji’, ‘Kisarawe’ 및 ‘Kibaha’ 지구의 시민단체가 함께 참여했다.

Tanzania: Do Not Exploit Orphans, Warns RC Mahiza

Kibaha — COAST Regional Commissioner (RC), Ms Mwantumu Mahiza, has warned Non- Governmental Organisations (NGOs) in the region against using orphans to source for money from donors, saying that those who will be caught will be punished according to the law.

 

She made the call on Friday while officially opening a meeting for NGOs organised by the regional Community Development Department.

"There are a number of NGOs that use orphans to seek funds from potential donors and once they get the funds they neglect the children, which is totally unethical and not acceptable in our culture," she warned.

 

The RC urged relatives of orphans who dump children at orphanages to be more compassionate about the welfare of these orphans and advised NGOs to instead empower the relatives on how to take care of these children," she said.

 

"Most of these children have relatives. It could be wiser if NGOs sought them out and taught them how to take good care of these children and leave those whose relatives cannot be traced at the orphanages." The meeting brought together local NGOs from Mkuranga, Rufiji, Kisarawe and Kibaha districts.
