투투 대주교, 달라이 라마 입국을 거부한 남아공 정부 맹비난

 

 

데스몬드 투투 대주교(Archbishop Desmond Tutu)는 티벳의 정신적 지도자인 달라이 라마(Dalai Lama)에게 비자를 내주지 않은

남아공 정부를 비판했다. “난 이 아첨꾼들을 정부라고 부르기가 부끄럽습니다.”라고 데스몬드 투투 대주교가 성명을 통해 말했다.

지난달에도 달라이 라마가 남아공으로 입국하는 것이 거절되었었다.

올해 10월 13일부터 15일까지는 남아공 케이프타운에서 14번째로 열리는 노벨평화 수상자의 정상회담이 있는 기간이다.

5년 동안 세 번이나 달라이 라마는 남아공에 입국할 수 있는 비자를 획득할 수 없었다.

투투 대주교는 남아공 정부가 “자기 무덤을 자기가 파고 있는 것”에 대해 믿을 수 없는 일이라고 했다.

“성하(종교 지도자에 대한 존칭)님이 우리 정부로 인해 나의 80번째 생일에 참석하지 못했을 때

나는 중국인들에게 아첨하는 우리 정부를 크게 비난했고 ANC정부가 나를 대변하지 않았던 것을 기억합니다.”

“나는 그들에게 경고했습니다. 우리가 아파르트헤이트 정부의 붕괴를 위해 기도했듯이

너무나도 용기가 없는 이 정부의 붕괴를 위해서 기도할 것이라고 말이지요.”

투투 대주교는 아프리카에서 처음으로 열리는 노벨 정상회담은 넬슨만델라 전 대통령을 기념하는 의미가 있는 것이라고 말했다.

지난 달, 14명의 노벨 수상자들은 제이콥 주마(Jacob Zuma)대통령에게

달라이 라마를 남아공으로 들어올 수 있게 해달라고 요청하는 글을 썼다.

동시에 국제관계부는 달라이라마의 비자요청서를 숙고 중에 있었는데 달라이 라마가 이 여행을 취소했다고 말했다.

달라이 라마는 1989년에 노벨평화상을 수상했다.

목요일, 케이프타운의 시장인 Patricia de lille는 제 14회 노벨 평화 수상자의 세계 정상회담을 공표할 것이다.

South Africa: Tutu Bashes Govt Over Dalai Lama

 

 

Archbishop Desmond Tutu on Wednesday criticised the government for allegedly refusing a visa to Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama.

 

"I am ashamed to call this lickspittle bunch my government," he said in a statement.

 

Last month it was reported that the Dalai Lama had again been refused entry to the country, this time for the 14th World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates to be held in Cape Town from October 13 to October 15.

 

It was the third time in five years the Dalai Lama could not secure a visa to enter South Africa.

 

Tutu said he could not "believe that the South African government could shoot itself in the same foot thrice over.

 

"When His Holiness was prevented by our government from attending my 80th birthday I condemned that kowtowing to the Chinese roundly and reminded the ANC government that it did not represent me.

 

"I warned them then that just as we had prayed for the downfall of the apartheid government so we would pray for the demise of a government that could be so spineless."

 

He said the Nobel Summit, the first to be held in Africa, was meant to celebrate former president Nelson Mandela.

 

Last month, 14 Nobel laureates wrote to President Jacob Zuma asking that a South African travel visa be granted to the Dalai Lama.

 

At the time the international relations department said the Dalai Lama's visa application was a closed matter, and that he had cancelled his trip.

 

The Dalai Lama won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989.

 

On Thursday, Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille is set to make an announcement on the 14th World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates.
