말라위, 아일랜드에게 한 수 배운다

아일랜드와의 긴밀한 공조를 희망하는 말라위 대통령

 

 

말라위 공화국의 대통령 Peter Mutharika는 아일랜드와 국가 상호간 이익에 대한 희망을 밝혔다.

3일간 진행된 아일랜드 대통령 마이클 히긴즈(Michael Higgins)의 말라위 공식 방문동안 열린 국회만찬에서 Mutharika는

말라위는 안정된 경제기반과 성공적인 무역 및 투자 분야를 경험한 아일랜드와의 관계에서 많은 것을 얻을 수 있다고 말했다.

그리고 아일랜드의 다양한 분야의 풍부한 경험과 지식을 통해 말라위가,

생산업 같은 분야에서 새로운 협업을 추구할 수 있기를 고대하고 있다고 밝혔다.

Mutharika는 또한 히긴즈 대통령의 방문으로 이어진 말라위와 아일랜드간의 강력한 유대관계 유지와 아일랜드의 지속적인 지원에 대해 찬사를 보냈다. “각하 저는 말라위의 자립, 개발, 현대화, 빈곤 퇴치를 위한 당국의 원조에 대해 감사를 드리고 싶습니다.

말라위는 이것을 당연하게 여기지 않을 것이라고 단언합니다.” Mutharika는 이어서 “우리는 기회를 충분히 활용하여

희소자원의 효과적인 활용을 위한 자국 정부의 금융 거버넌스 기관을 발전시킬 것”이라고 말했다.

그는 경제 성장을 방해하는 저조한 식량안전보장도와 경제적위기를 초래하는 모든 장애물에 대해

두 나라는 연대적으로 맞서 싸워야 할 것이라고 덧붙였다.

아일랜드 정부는 말라위와의 무역관계 증진을 위해 힘쓰고 있으며 전략적 협력

프로그램(Programme for Strategic Co-operation)에 의해 고등교육기관에서 다수의 리서치 및 교육 파트너쉽을 맺고 있다.

히긴즈 대통령은 에티오피아를 방문한 후 그의 두 번째 아프리카 투어에 있고 이달 말 고국으로 돌아가기 전에 남아공을 방문할 예정이다.

Mutharika Optimistic to Benefiting From Ireland, Malawi Relationship

President of the Republic of Malawi Peter Mutharika has disclosed his hopes on benefiting from the country's bilateral relationship with the Republic of Ireland.

 

Mutharika was speaking at a state banquet he prepared for Irish President Michael Higgins who is in the country for a three day official visit.

 

According to Mutharika, Malawi has a lot to learn from experienced Ireland that has stable economy and successful several sectors of trade and investing.

 

In his words, the Malawi leader said he hopes new areas of cooperation will be explored in fields such as trade, agriculture and manufacturing saying the country is looking forward to benefiting from Irish vast experience and knowledge in different fields.

 

Mutharika also commended Ireland for supporting Malawi for a good period and for maintaining the strong relationship which has been proved by Mr Higgins' visit.

 

"I would like to commend Your Excellency, for your government's support towards our quest for self- reliance, development, modernization, and poverty reduction. I would like to assure you, that we do not take this for granted.

 

"On our part, we will continue to take full advantage of the opportunities that will help our Government to improve our financial governance institutions for effective utilization of scarce resources", said Mutharika.

 

He added that the two nations should jointly fight against all obstacles that hamper economic growth which lead to poor food security and financial crisis among others.

 

The Irish government is also working to improve trade relations between Ireland and Malawi and support a number of research and learning partnerships between higher education institutions in Ireland and Malawi through the Programme for Strategic Co-operation.

 

Mr Higgins is on his second part of African tour after visiting Ethiopia and is due to visit South Africa before returning home later this month.
